Default Reduse shift throw, Cut it in half literally?

OK i know this is kinda a stupid question but I really like the look of a short lever shifter "manual". Like in some cars where the shifter barly sticks out past the consel. Im thinkin about takin it apart and cutin the shift lever in 1/2. I would just like get some peoples opinions on it Im sure it would reduce shift throws because its closer to the center point, i just dont know if its a good idea and if it will be easy to reach.

It's not going to shorten your shifts.

me and my friend did this on his GTi mk4

didnt really reduce the throw, but it takes less movement to shift since your shifting closer to the base. you can do it if your planning on buying a short throw. then if u eff up. your gunna change it anyway.

Short answer: don't do it.

buy a short shifter from comptech or neuspeed. there are so many things wrong with ur original post. everyone agrees... DONT DO IT! do u know how to thread the shifter itself to fit the **** back on? it wont reduce throws, so its just for aesthetics. bad idea. spend $70 and get a comptech shifter. not shorter looking, but shorter throws

Simply put, if you do not change the point at which the cable attaches to the lever, you do not shorten your shift throw any.

the length of the shaft doesn't reduce the throws. look at the short shifter adapters. They don't touch the shifter rod. If you want to ghetto rig it for a shorter shifting stick then go ahead and cut and super glue it, but when you mess up, you're stuck with an expensive replacement part.
