quick autocross ??
Ok my friend and I are planning to build a 93 civic hatch autocross car for next season. He has a CX shell and access to a sohc vtec motor. After reading the rules multiple times I'm not sure what class we can run in. In the rules for Street prepared Section 15.1 subcategory C it gives me the impression that we can run that combo, am I right? and if not what class would the car run in?
Thanks

Depends on how official you are trying to be. I had the same problem, cx shell, with a z6 in it. I would just register as an SI, unless the checked my vin it wouldn't matter. I'm assuming thats what you are refering to anyways. If your going for points and to compete statewide, or nationaly, then you'd want to get a different shell.... not sure if you can get an okay via the officials.
to be legal, you'd have to run it in street mod. keep reading the rule book. a lot of stuff in there builds on other things, references the apendix, and is further clarified in other places in the rule book. if you're serious about being legal, you should read the rule book cover to cover. if you're just autocrossing for fun, run it in SM and don't spend another nickle on it. if you wanted to start building it for a class, you're starting with a great shell for an FSP car. you can't use the sohc vtec motor though. you need to find a d15 out of DX of that same generation and use that with the tranny out of an LX sedan.
I read thru a lot of the rules and it a lot of stuff get's confusing, (thanks for more clarification btw) the more input the better. There isn't a lot of competition in FSP out in CPA area. But I'll keep talking to my friend (the shells owner) about it.
thanks again

15.1.C. only allows updating/backdating between cars that are listed on the same line for the Street Prepared category in Appendix A. '92-95 Civic SOHC VTEC and '92-95 Civic NOC are listed on different lines for SP. Not only are they listed on different lines, they are listed in different classes (DSP for SOHC VTEC and FSP for NOC). Thus, a D16Z6 (or any other SOHC VTEC engine) is not legal in your EH2 chassis for SP.

Street Modified.
As Nathan mentioned, the best option for an EH2 chassis is probably to swap in a D15B7 from a DX/LX and run FSP. The '92-95 DX hatchback is a very competitive FSP car when prepared properly, so a CX shell with that drivetrain would be a legal and advantageous setup for the class.

You can't register it as an Si, because it is not an Si. If you wanted to register it as one, you would have to add EVERYTHING found in the EH3 that isn't legal to modify in SP - including the moonroof with headliner, rear discs with cables and proportioning valve, larger fuel tank, door mouldings, cruise control, rear wiper, clock, EX/Si cluster, passenger mirror if it's a '92-93 CX, and various other bits.
Officials are not going to give an "okay" for something blatantly illegal and advantageous. It has nothing to do with "being official." Cheating is lame.

ok cool, thanks I appreciate it. This is my first year actually autocrossing, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can whenever I can. I appreciate the input a lot. I'll run all this by the shells owner and see what he thinks. I'm willing to go SM and after looking at my financial situation I should be able to help afford it too, but he might want to go FSP.
YAY!!! LEARNING IS FUN!

So then how about this.
94 cx hatch, d15z1 engine with a d16y5 (96 hx) head?
it's still not the sohc vtec class cause it's vtec-e
how would that work out?

Street Mod, provided the rest of the car is SM-legal.
