Default b20vtec problems

so with my b20vtec, when i went to the dyno, the car would engage vtec, but when that happens, the power drops. you can hear the vtec engaging, and it's loud as hell, but there's no power there. anyone have similar problems or might be able to help? i was told it might be the rocker arms, but if the rocker arms are shot, the motor shouldn't even engage in vtec correct? idk, i'm so confused. could it be the tuning? but even with a bad tune it should be completely losing power when vtec comes in?

have you changed your fuel system(fuel pump-injectors,pressure regulator?if not , i think you should upgrade and get it tuned after that..
my friend had the same problem and it was solved by changing up his fuel system.. good luck....

Sounds like cam timing. Had the same problem. Vtec engaged so loudly, it scared people driving next to me...but all it did was make noise, it didn't go anywhere. I just about lost to a stock CRX Si. I replaced the head gasket, and I found the cam timing was off a tooth. Fixed that problem, and the car pulls like it should now. Especially with a tune!

Good luck

b20powerda: so what would you suggest...?

loudassvtec: i'm pretty sure the cam gear timing is right, because i just had my timing belt replaced, also hybrid motor timing is always a bit off, but i'll def check it again.

thanks for the suggestions guys, keep it coming! honda-tech is the best!

it was a while ago, i think it was 12 to 1 before vtec, then 10 to 1 during vtec, i know that's really rich, but should it still have absolutely no power at all tho?

Are there any check engine lights? Fuel pump would not be the problem either...

If u havent fixed the prob yet- my guess would be lack of oil pressure. Thats all i can think of as of now. A bad vtec solenoid would not let the motor engage in vtec but if its engaging fine but with no power i say there is low oil pressure.

A bad tune would also do it- run stock ecu
are there any odd noises?
