Default burning oil??? losing oil???

ok well heres the thing, new civic needed a new head gasket so i fixed that. and well when i removed my head i just cleaned it up for good measure. and well i found that a lot of grim/oil was built up in my exhaust ports. i havent checked my compression yet, but my cylinder walls look in pretty good shape. i had a friend throttle the car while it was on and i went around to the back and checked my exhaust. its blowing smoke and when i put my hand on it i had oil all over my hand. does this mean that im losing oil, or burning it? someone suggested to me that i check my valve seals. could this be the problem? 89 Civic Si with a sohc ZC

Sounds like its time to do a good old fashioned rebuild on that engine.
