Do i need my heat shield?

i was wondering if anything would happen if i took the heat shield off from my stock exhaust piping. my heat shield keeps rattling so i was wondering if it was ok to take it off. let me know. thanks.

the only reason why its there is to stop the exhaust from heating up the floor!
