Car won't start (sometimes)
Hey, i'm just looking for some ideas for me to check out.. b16a in a 92 gsr
it ussually doesnt start after its been ran for awhile, like if the motor is hot.. it will continuasly turn over, its just not firing.. whether thats my spark, or fuel. People have suggested its my main relay, but it shouldnt even be turning over if it is my main relay correct?
when running, it runs perfectly fine.. doesnt try dieing on me, idles at 800-900 rpm (vafc2 reading), im stumped and any ideas would be appreciated, that way i can go try em out, and eventually fix this stupid problem. Thanks in advance

Yes, it can turn over with a bad relay... You main relay sends power to your ECU and Fuel pump... Have a buddy turn the key to the on position while you have your ears on the back seat, listen for a hum... no hum = no fuel pump power
i can hear the fuel pump working.. and its something closer then that because it starts.. just not when the motor is hot.. its confusing the hell out of me
I think that sounds like a main relay. My friend just had his go bad in his prelude, the car would hardly ever start when it was hot, he used to have to pop his hood and just go watch tv for half an hour then come try again, haha. He also never had any trouble with it until the summer, all winter it was fine (he bought it in the winter). Main relays are fairly cheap and pretty easy to install, I would start there. Good luck
So it hasn't died on you once you get it running? It may be the ignitor (ignition control module) inside the distributor. When it starts to go out it is notorious for failing when hot. That and the main relay tend to be the most likely culprits of hot no starts, but since you say your fuel pump is working....

i work at the dealer and it was a common problem, but since yours is swapped i don't know if it will apply.
If you have access to a multimeter check the voltage of your ect sensor. If its over 1 volt then it is sending an "engine cold" signal which will flood your engine with fuel causing a no start. Replace the sensor. Normal voltage should be 0.3-0.7 when engine is hot.
With the ignition in "on" position (engine not running) do you have a check engine light?
