Default 24.5" slicks - WHY DO I SUCK

Launching at 6500 rpm and I'm roasting the slicks all through 1st. My best 60' last night was a pathetic 1.85. I used to get mid 1.7s on a good set of 22" slicks.

'88 CRX Si
Traction bars
front + rear shocks set on full stiff

Run 1 (15 lbs in the tires, 2-3 secs burnout, some smoke, hot track)

60' ---1.985
330 --5.547
1/8 --8.253
mph -91.77
1000 10.524
1/4 --12.423
mph -118.17

Run 2 (9 lbs in the tires, screwed up burnout, hot track)

60' ---1.854
330 --5.110
1/8 --7.717
mph -93.43
1000 9.955
1/4 --11.826
mph -120.41

Run 3 (9 lbs in the tires, 3-4 sec burnout, good smoke, cold track)

60' ---1.953
330 --5.285
1/8 --7.946
mph -91.14
1000 10.222 (I lifted due to oil/water on the track)
1/4 --12.120
mph -118.32

I lowered my slick pressure from 10psi down to 6 psi...that was the whole difference. that was 6psi in between runs. So after a 2nd/ 3rd gear burnout with sufficient smoke... the tire pressure increased a bit. But I got my best results with 6psi.

Yeah, 9psi is too much. Work your way down and see what works best.

I ran 7.5psi on 24.5s too and I wanted to drop to 6psi and see if that helped cause I was still spinning thro 1st as well but I never got the chance. The best 60 I ever pulled was 1.83 tho.

How are you guys holding your burnouts? 8k in 2nd and it just pulls me out after a couple of seconds, before I get enough smoke. Are you all doing 3rd?

make sure you heat them up pretty good. carry second gear for a few seconds and then ride thru the lane to pick up some vht.

6psi seems low but try it...it might help. make sure its 6-8 psi HOT after a run... cuz 8psi cold heats up to 10-11psi.

and another thing

going from 22inches to 24.5s is a BIG jump. it will bring down your gear ratios, making your car feel slower, and actualy run slower. your 60's wont be as strong and your trap will go down. thats 2.5inches more tire. thats a big gear difference. you might want to up your final drive to a deeper gear.

i cut a 1.66 60' with 6 psi with a 2nd gear burn at 6k for approx. 10-15 seconds. Launching at 7500 (no two step)

I was hitting 9k in 4th on the 22s, I'm already hitting 8k in 4th with the new slicks 1st is pretty much always tire-limited for me, I'm sure it's just as stated bad technique and prep on my part... I have a bone-stock head so I don't want to go to 9k regularly.

What are most people pulling for 60s with these?? I just can't see a worse 60' happening on bigger slicks providing the engine's up for it, and I hit boost almost instantly of the line so I think I'm fine. I'm making these tires scrabble for traction in 1st even when I (by accident) lifted and then matted it.

I was kind of expecting regular 1.6s and zero traction problems, just power problems! I thought I was over-slicking the car. Maybe when I get them set up right and get a good burnout it will be better.

6psi before the burnout is best for staceys car. You will gain pressure after the burnout so you have to keep that in mind.

are these slicks brand new and this was the first time out on them? they might just need a few warm up passes before they start to hook like they should. i was told i need to roast off new ET Streets before trying them at the drag strip. my slicks i bought slightly used and they didnt hook for **** my first 5 passes.. next time out ijust roasted them up good in the burnout box, and they dead hooked

Well I went back last night, it was a little better. Tried 7psi and got a best of 1.771. I retained the same launch rpm (6500). Burnouts were a lot better, it was just bad form on my part last time for that.

Still a little disappointing... but high 1.7s are better than high 1.8s.

After temps dropped in the night the slicks went down to 5.5lbs and 60's suffered. I think I'll keep them at 7.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Here's a short vid of one of my crappiest burnouts and an average launch... suggestions are welcome!

The Supra missed 3rd if you're wondering why I won.

you guys ever consider running nitrogen in the tires to try and maintain a more stable pressure after the burnout/launch...

thats actually what was in my tires at battle of the imports... a lot of the top racers(i dunno about import) but the pro modified and alcohol dragster run nitrogen in their tires.

Got nothing against it if the opportunity comes along to try it Right now it's faster/easier since I have a little air pump, I just change the tire pressures all the time to try and figure out what works in the changing track conditions. It's not one-size-fits-all for me but I'm thinking 7 as a starting point and go from there, find out how the tires react to the change to nighttime with the accompanying dew and how I can combat that.

When was the last time you had a alignment done?

I went from high 1.6s to high 1.5s just by dropping from 8psi to 7 psi and raising the 2step from 7000 to 8000. It spun a little more but made a hell of a difference in my times. Try some limit straps also.

Good point, thanks for the tip... it is quite out!

I guess this is more dependent on the suspension height I'm using and how stiff it is, but do people aim for slight toe-out or -in? I suppose I need to check how the toe changes as the car lifts...

6psi in the tires and try launching at 7k.
Good luck!

Went back tonight, 60's were in the 1.79 to 1.80 range, slicks at 7psi, this is post-alignment. I was getting some really nice burnouts tonight, didn't seem to help though.

For next Friday I'll try 6000 launch and 7000 launch, see which one works best. I want to try lower because right off the line it's spinning and it just rips through the slicks without giving them a chance to grip.

On the plus side two more lbs boost and some race gas shaved almost 0.4s off my time Now if I wasn't a frigging idiot I would've remembered to turn up the boost cut to past where the wastegate was set, and that time would be lower.

Thanks all
