Stock Door speakers
Stock are 6.5", about 25 watt. Paper woofer and paper cone tweeter. What's your budget for speakers? If you're looking for something cheap but still sounds good, try some Dual speakers. $26 a set at BestBuy
Go to the nearest Electronics store that sell automotive audio and ask them, they will tell all the exact specs of back and front speakers and get you the price quotes. And then you can go around buying and installing your speakers.
actually i have measured mine and they are 6.25 inches. I dont know how u guys can put 6.5inch speakers in the front cause when i had my old 99 lude i had to make the speaker hole thing larger by cutting it out to fit the normal dual 6.5inch speakers. I cant see how u can put 6.5 speakers without modifications, any input would be great (sorry for hijacking

Well.. The 4th Gen door Speakers are 6.5" also.. When I install new speakers they were the same diameter, but the depth is the problem.. The stock speakers are just cheap, low power speakers.. Have a much smaller magnet and what not in them. But most (Decent at least) aftermarket speakers have bigger magnets which cause more depth and also more power..
And yes, the stock speakers were problem at least a full inch if not more smaller, depth wise, than my Sony speakers.. What you have to do is... There is a "Cup" (At least for my 4th Gen) that the stock speakers sit in.. You will have to cut out the center of it so the new speaker can fit through the "Cup." As you need the "Cup," or well, you could do without it, but it makes it much easier installing it with the "Cup," otherwise you might have to make new mounting holes..
^^I could be wrong on the last part, it's been awhile, but I think that's right..
Anyways, just take off your door panel and look at it, you'll see what I'm talking about and it'll make it much more understandable..

am i correct on thinking 5th gens came with some supposedly amazing bose sound system, because in my trunk there is loads of crap like an amp and some coils but my audio still distorts with the standard setup
Heh.. When I got my car I didn't have rear speakers, my drivers side was blown, and the passenger was ok..
I believe the 5th Gens have 6"x9"s in the rear?? Or they can... I've read of people that have them there at least...
But yea, 4th Gen I know for sure have 6.5" all around, and the VTEC Sub is 6"x9."
Search the net, it's easy to find the Speakers for half their Retail price..
The head unit I bought was $370 retail, I bought it for $220.
The Speakers were $100 a pair, I bought two pair for $45 each.
Then I installed it all myself... I saved at least $250, plus more if I had them installed by a car radio shop..
Well, maybe a little less.. I did have to buy the connectors for all four speakers.. The Dash Kit, and Spacers for the Rear Speakers.. So maybe $200 plus..
And that's another thing.. If you get aftermarket speakers for the rear, they're not gonna fit, even if they're 6"x9"s, they won't fit without spacers..

I think without modification the best speaker that fit a 4th gen are polk DB6500 components. I have them in my 4th gen and they sound perfect, clear highs, decent midbass, I haven't mounted the rear tweeters anywhere yet but it still soudns good. they are running off a kenwood kdc mpv 619 HU which i think puts out 45w max per channel and the speakers can take i believe 100 or 150. I got them for buy one get one half off at crutchfield and they have me a free year subscription to road and track magazine and all the connectors I needed for installation. if you can afford these, get them.
