Bad TPS on my JDM H22A
I bought my Prelude 2 months ago and I noticed it would idle high when I start it up and then drop to a little over normal idle. My brother's friend took a look at it and then confirmed that it was due to a bad TPS (my CEL indicated code 7).. He then told me that a bad TPS can damage your engine and I need to change it ASAP, which I am in the process of changing and haven't driven back since last week. Since I got my Prelude I've only driven literally no more than 5 times for a distance of 2 blocks. When the car wasn't being driven I would occasionally start it up and let it run for no more than 4-5 minutes. The engine seems healthy and everything, no smoking or anything like that. My question is do you think from the seldom times I've started and driven it, do you think that the engine has acquired any damages? I really appreciate any help and thank you for your time.
I think it's fine. Without the tps ur engine will just run pretty rich, since the ecu isn't getting a signal from the tps it just gives a default setting so thats why it idles so high, but If u haven't driven it that much I think u should be fine, just remember to calibrate ur new tps when u get it. calibrate it to .45V at idle, when the key is in the ignition and on, but not running.
