CRAP! stupid tokico's
I was on my way to UTA this morning to find out some info about some classes this fall. I was driving along in a busy area in south Arlington, where in typical texas fashion, the light turns green and people just sit and act like they don't need to be anywhere until tomorrow. So I move over a lane and am going through the intersection about 30mph, and hit what must have been a HUGE pothole, definitely the biggest thing I've ever hit in this car. I heard a loud bang and the car started riding super rough so I thought I blew a tire out and probably broke a mount on the tranny. I pulled off and looked underneath to see if the oil pan was still on the car and not still in the intersection, and the tire was fine. I popped the hood and sure enough, the top of the passenger-side front shock had broken off. It looks like somehow the retaining nut stripped off and shot everything out. Here's some pics:

And here it is again after I pulled it up with a screwdriver.

I have a die that I think will fit that, I could possibly rethread the top and see if it will work temporarily so I can drive it..right now i have to limp along while it bangs up and down over all the bumps we have here. I think the shock might be bent though so I'll try to dig up a used one somewhere to get me by for a few days.
Anyone near dallas selling some used or cheap suspension for an integra?

I think it's out of warranty because I've had it so long and I didn't send in the form so I'm not eligible anyways. Yeah, I lost the retaining nut, and the shims or whatever they're called that support the bump stops. They all fell off somewhere in the street.

Alright, got it fixed, the rigged way...hehe. I took a 10x1.25 die and put it on top of the shock. It wouldn't turn because the shock rod itself spins with it. So I took a 27mm socket and put it over the die, then used an impact with short bursts to recut the threads. Then I put back on the metal sleeve, bump stop, the shim-looking things, and a retaining nut. Drove it around and it seems to be ok. I'll try this until I can afford some "real" suspension.
Yeah, I'd say a die and tap set is a good investment but they're not cheap, maybe $100+. I only have one die right now and it just happened to be the right size, we used it for a different project.
