JDM B16 in EF9 doesn't fit! HELP!!!
Hey guys, this is my first post and I really like the feedback and hopefully I can get some help. After being tired of getting whooped on everytime... I finally go an 88dx with a JDM B16 install. The mounts are however welded in and the battery's already in the back. The valve cover is all scratched up from the hood!!! What can I do to make clearance for the hood?!?! I've heard of adding spacers to the side mounts but is there any other way?!?! Thanks a lot. By the way, will a strut bar still fit? By the way, how can you tell if it's got LSD?

I dunno, I got if off a respectable guy that didn't want the rattle and "added" performance so he had the mounts welded. By the way, I thought the 88-91 B16's should just fit right in. I guess not eh?
So if it's welded in, does that mean it's the end of the world?! What happens if I wanna upgrade to a 1.8 later? But in the mean time, am I just dicked and should look into a different hood?
i dont understand, your mounts to your motor are welded? or your mounts inside your engine bay are welded and relocated? i would recomend getting a mount kit, then you can upgrade to a 1.8 or even the 2.0 in future if you wished to do so.
it was a "cut and weld" install....meaning they cut out the stock mounting locations and adjusted them to adapt to the b16a....well, i'd never reccomend that kind of install..sounds like your motor was mounted too high

you can use washers in the back to raise the hood up and turn the rubber bushings in the front. or spend the money on another hood fiber images makes a SIR + indent style hood. or get a ZC hood. or like everyone else cut the reinforcements under the hood in the area of the valve cover.
What should I do now? Sell the car and find another deal? Keep it and just put up with the scratches? Reweld the mounts? At least the guy repainted the mounts to make them look better... =T How would I got about cut the reinforcements? Is it worth doing? Will the ZC hood fit perfectly? Also, wont' the car look weird with the hood raised? Thanks a lot for all the help guys. Honda-tech is the best eh?

cut out the hood supports under the hood...it should give you some room...i had to do that with my crx w/b18c....if you dont wanna go ghetto and you have the cash to burn get a "bump-up" hood...fiber images sells one of these...you dont have to sell the car if it runs fine....yea you should of got a bolt in kit instead of the weld job, just make the best of what you already have....
Should I take it to a shop or is that something an afternoon in the garage could handle. How exactly would I go about cutting them? The car runs nice and strong, will be faster with better tuning and a dyno.
Don't worry about the weld in kit, as long as you're not breaking axles all the time, and the engine seems to sit in the proper location, it should be fine for many years to come. Most B16 installs will hit the hood if the supports in the hood are not cut, it's nothing to worry about, it's only going to scratch up the valve cover, nothing more. Either get a carbon hood, or cut the support, and that shouldn't be an issue. If the guy you bought the car from was pretty honest, and hopefully someone you know, and he was straight with you about everything, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about with the car.
my HASport mounts weren't perfect either. We just banged the webbing under the hood with a hammer in the places where it was hitting. I'd rather do that than have my header hitting speed bumps. Eventually I want that fiber images hood anyway. You could probably cut the webbing too in the bad spots with a dremel or something. I didnt really want to cut anything in fear of weakening the hood to much for when I wash it or if I wanna do a Bo Duke impression. Yeeeeehaaawwww.
just a note, buying a mount kit now isnt going to help matters
your stock mount positions have already been tampered with.!!
just notch out some webbing from under the hood..
as mentioned if u arent breaking axles, its probably just mounted
a little too high..!
hth.

I have welded mounts. it sits kinda crooked, but i havent broken any axles yet. I also have the sir frontend, so i have no clearance problems. But the moron that put the engine in put the front mount UNDER the crossmember, so i hit it sometimes
um.. how much did it cost you to get the mounts welded?? haha.. hope it wasn't anything over 3 bills...
I would say that cut and weld is Shady, but I've seen Atomic's work and DAMN!
Looks like they used NEW 90 integ mounts all around.
