Is the price right on this type-r? I need some opinions!
Hey guys! So I have been in the market for a type-r for some time and came across this one....
http://seattle.craigslist.org/....html
My friend I ventured out to go look at it only to find out the car has a salvaged title! The car was stolen about 3 years ago and stripped (seats, wheels, steering wheel, etc.). The owner of the car (also owns a tuning shop) decided to import a wrecked JDM type-r and a purchased a brand new front end conversion from a japanese honda dealer to go about fixing the car.
When we looked at the car it was in absolute flawless condition with original paint and a 10/10 interior. What do you guys think? Is it worth the asking 17.5k? I need some true type-r owners opinions!
Thanks a ton guys!

its a beautiful car, but i think 17.5 would only be worth it if it wasnt a salvage. if it was stolen from you or totaled, i dont know if the insurance company would give you what they would if it was clear titled car. do your homework before laying down the cash and get all legal questions from your ins comp answered first.
It looks like a lot of hard work went into that car. I'd say something around 14K (pending on miles). But, since it is a salvage title, I'd low ball the hell out of him.
Ask him to see the reciepts for the parts purchased so you can make a good evaluation on it's price.

-Salvage title...
I'm thinking it's worth around $14,372.00
There's plenty of clean title, low mileage and well maintained ITRs for that price or less (especially that year).

I don't think it's worth it. Not for $16K, not even for $14K. There are BIG red flags here.
One is the salvage title; salvaged cars often have undisclosed damage and/or were poorly repaired. (When a car has been totalled, they often cut corners when repairing it, because the car is going to end up with a salvage title and it's not worth doing the job right - remember, that's why it got totalled in the first place.)
Another is the lack of disclosure. The listing doesn't mention the salvage title or the mileage on the car. It makes me wonder what else he isn't mentioning.
I would never buy this car.
An ITR similar to this one, with a few generally unappealing mods and 49K original miles, would be worth around $16-17K if it had a clean title and was a reputable seller (which this listing makes me doubt). I really don't think this car is worth more than $12K, and maybe not even that much.
If you are still serious about this car, I strongly recommend taking it to a knowledgeable, qualified, expert body shop for a detailed inspection before committing to buying it (or with passing the inspection as a condition of the purchase). You should be prepared to pay the body shop for an hour or two of labor.
