Azenis vs. ?????
Going to my first track day coming up soon and I am in dire need of some new tires.
First choice is the Falken Azenis. But...they seem very hard to come by lately.
My question, if those aren't available, what would be a good tire that could serve a dual purpose like the Azenis?
Thank you much.
btw, here are my specs:
2000 Hatch
16x7 +42 offset
Also, I kinda want to float around the $100 per tire area.

V700 light weight? I'd say they're about the heaviest tire i've ever felt, with the azenis close behind...price paid for a stiff sidewall i guess. V700s are R compound, and will wax the Azenis...but wear much quicker of course. I'd recommend waiting for the azenis if you can.

If this is going to be your first event and you absolutely need tires, just get a relatively cheap set of tires for now. The absolute worst thing you can do is to learn how to drive on the track with race tires. You want to learn how to drive on street tires then move up to race tires later when you feel confident in your abilities. Race tires don't give enough feedback to help beginners learn, rather they mask the mistakes you make.

Bridgestone RE730s are awesome tires and a lot less than S-03's or 010's. I ran them at the last track event I went to and personally didn't feel like I woudl have gone any faster in the Turns with my V700 and Millenia wheels on.
1. Bridgestone RE 540's
2. Dunlop Formula R's
3. B/Stone RE 711
Theres nothing else I know of that would do a decent job other than these 3 above.
By the way, Im in Australia....so I dunno if you can get them in the States.

Don't take nice new streets to the track either. Nice deep tread blocks like to squirm a lot...and when they squirm, they get hot....then the commit suicide and start chunking. If you are thinking of tracking, go w/a worn set, but still drivable. A tire that's on the wear bars are bad for the street but are nice for a dry track. Or do like I did and get a set of streets and have em shaved. That's what I did. Put em on a alt set of wheels.
I will say that I think a tire like the Azenis has a lot more dry traction than wet, just from the tread design. I say that just from the visual - large tread blocks - not a bunch of smaller ones.
And just say no to R compounds. Better to be a good driver on bad tires than a bad driver on good tires! One will let you drive anything well and the other will put you in a ditch!

The heck with the T1s, go RA-1s!
Very sticky, very fun, very short life but worth it if you have the $...
Who says no one likes Toyos? Two votes so far.
