just got another h23 from hmotors
just came in today, and i was wondering what you guys think i should do to it, as far as tune-up/maintenance. not bothering with any upgrades for now, other than replacing clutch.
fluids, plugs, wires, cap, maybe timing belt.... feel free to add on, thanks guys
p.s. for timing belt, should i change anything else in addition to just the belt itself?

Well, if you wanna go all out then check all the seals + gaskets. Oil pan gasket, front & rear main seals (since ur doing the clutch + possibly timing belt), cam seals (both ends, incl distributor o-ring), valve cover gasket (grommets + spark plug o-rings), if you do the t-belt check the tensioner pulley & do the waterpump. that should be it for things that would be annoying to do later on (when its IN the car).

Only thing I see is that the motor only has 35-40k on it, so the timing belt should be fine for another few years. Most people do it now just because it's easier while it's out. Anyway, oil, plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Also, be careful when you put it in. Lots of people tend to break off the knock sensor
Yeah while its out save the hassle and do the t-belt, then you know when it's due as well, not a 10k guess. and as the other posts said, oil pan, front and rear mains, valve cover and cam seals, maybe even the gasket behind the oil filter housing, I think its the oil cooler gasket? that should keep your new investment happy until you want more!

Mileage is not the only thing to consider when determining if the timing belt needs to be changed. Age is a concern too.

Absolutely correct. These engines are 10 yrs old no matter how you look at it. The have been banged moved and transported halfway around the world. Do as much now as you can and you will have fewer problems later.

i would put the balancershaft seal retainer in that keeps that seal from backing out.. happend to me on my H , lucky i had a oil press gauge.
thanks for all the responses so far guys
so far, everything listed has been:
timing belt
water pump
front and rear seals
oil pan gasket
cam seals
valve cover gasket
only one i have done is the oil pan gasket, and im definitely doing the t-belt. as far as the others, is it more preventive or is it a must be done kinda thing? i just want to get the absolute essentials right now because after the motor + shipping, i dont have much money left right now, and i gotta get this motor in time for monday

i hear gatorbacks are good for autozone quality stuff, but for timing belt, you want to stick with a honda belt, goto http://www.honda.com and sign up for the owners link, you can order parts online, pick it up at your local dealership, and you pay a lot less, like http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com prices, and most dealership parts departments should have the retainer, it was basically a recall for almost every 90-97 accord (f series motors), 92-96 preludes (i think 97-01 as well), acura cl's with f22 motor, tl or legend if they had f series motor in the 90s, etc....speaking of which try an acura parts department as well....
