i didnt know where this would go but since the motor is goin in a del sol i figured i would post here.

if anybody knows how to hone expertly could you please pm me. i rented the style from autozone that has the three stones on it. please pm me asap i need to get my motor in my car by sat.

 

if you dont know what your doing DONT HONE YOUR MOTOR!!! take it to a shop!

 

i would take it to a machine shop but ive already had it at 2 machine shops and theyve had it for a total of 3 weeks and said they "hadnt gotten around to it yet" so i think thats just a little to long of a wait. however i have used a hone before on my b16 just not this type. so i was needing some expertise on this type of hone. thanks for the obvious input though.

Take it to a damn machien shop

3 weeks isnt' anything..

I had an owen(sp?) generator down at owen for 6 months and they didn't get to it, then I went down there and picked it up...stupid ****...

 

If you honed a motor before then you could hone what you have. Honing is all the same with motors.

 

3 weeks is a damn long time when you drop it off on a monday and they tell you it will be ready wednesday mornin. no more posts about machine shops. i want posts from people that know how to HONE!!!!!!

 

as somone else said honing is all the same but i would recomend the hone that has the ***** on it that does a better job

 

yea i wish i could find one of the bottle brush hones, ive used one of those before. but autozone, oreilly's stopped carrying them.

 

thin just use the one you have it works the same way i just think the other stlye does a better job

If you've done it before what's the big problem? IT's the same basic function for all... If you expletive up the engine u'll know there was something u didn't do or were supposed to do...but if u've honed before, u should be able to do it, regardless of the type change...

there is too many dumbasses on this site you just wanna flame. this site is supposed to be for learning purposes. so all the flamers need to just go expletive off.

 

I've heard the best technique is to use about a 250 grit 3 stone hone to roughen up the cylinder walls. Once that's done, run a ball media (dingleberry) hone for about 2 or 3 seconds in each cylinder to knock off the high spots. That's what a lot of performance builders do and it works pretty well.

I hear that, especially for non pros like myself it can be a pain
