Default RWD versus FWD

I would think it has alot to do with what you are used to driving. In other words it's a mental thing. I learned to drive and had many RWD autos. I feel very comfortable driving one, but a little less confident with the FWD autos. So, it sounds to me that your friend tried one, didn't like it .... If you've driven mid, or rear engine cars that have the same weight distribution that the S2000 has, they have a different feel also. But, if that's the way he (she) feels about it and isn't willing to experiment, he might as well stay with the one he likes.

I've had a turbo AWD, and a turbo FWD. And now the S. The S is definatly the most reliable. But I think my turbo Jetta would of beat the S in a straight line all day. But even my GSX didn't feel as good around the turns as the S does.
