5000rpm break up?
I got my head back from the shop and put in dynamic autosport cams.. did a valve adj to .006 int and .007 exh.. I'm running a stock 01 gsr ecu and for some reason my engine breaks up around where v-tec usually kicks in..??? any suggestion. many have said I just need to be tuned with a different ecu but why would this stop v-tec from engaging?
yeah my timing is a hair off.. I need to adjust my cam gears.. and hopefully picking up an obd1 chipped ecu sometime shortly.. thanks just wondering if there is anything else to worry about.
Vtec is engaging too early on your obd2 gsr ecu.
Get a chipped ecu

The intake manifold has nothing to do with the comment I made :-)
The cams are probably not making power with vtec comming on at 4800 rpms.
Regardless you need to get a chipped ecu & get some tuning done.

CHECK YOUR BASIC FIRST!!! i had the same problem on my gsr and it was a stupid distribitor... so i bought a new one and problem went away.. check fuel pressure maybe drops at high rpm.. check spark, maybe in high rpm you lose spark... remember that if v-tech kicks in that mean that its working.. high rpm can cause fuel or spark to not operate correctly if something is wrong..
sorry its v- tec i spelled it wrong.. fuel or spark is the only thing that can cause the engine to brake up and not work correctly so check fuel and spark if everything is to spec then go to ecu.. but it sounds like ecu is doing what its suppose to...

had the same problem with mine around 5300 rpms the car would run like ****. In my case it ended up being bad plug wires!

Me too, and it turned out to be leaning out due to a faulty MAP sensor.

I have all new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I couldn't see those being the problem.. unless I need to gap my spark plugs more than stock specs.. I'm still thinking it's that my timing is literally a hair off and that looking at my cam gears one is 1degree ret. and the other is 1degree adv... looking at buying a p28 with s200 for cheap and hopefully that fixes the problem.

The ecu & hondata system won't fix the issue if its a tuning problem.
Having your car tuned will.
IMO hondata s200 is a rip off unless you plan on using one of its specific features that crome or uberdata do not have.

I'm thinking it's timing.. I'll find out tonight one I play with my cam gears cause one cam is set 1 degree ret. and the other is 1 degree adv. cause the owner before me had over sized valves and I have ferrea stock replacments... I'm thinking this is the problem cause I'm a hair off on timing.
