Default 88 crx si transmission hell!

i cannot shift my transmission into 5th gear, i get 1,2,3,4 & reverse!

i had a bad 5th syncro ring, it is "stuck" on the 5th gear so i replaced it with one that works from my old hf tranny, when i shift into reverse, the 5th shift fork comes down over the 5th gear & syncro ring... is this correct? any ideas what is effed up? the shift fork itself?
