new lightweight wheels, 15"
Couple of new wheels to be hitting the market soon. The first is from Konig; the 15X6.5" comes in bronze and silver and weighs in at 10.8lbs. Cost at discount tire when they come in (backordered right now) will be $139/each ===>
The next two are by Nippon Racing. The second of the two is spoon/rota knockoff and weighs in at 11lbs for the 15X6.5". The first is also 11lbs for 15X6.5" and is available in flat black, silver, white, gun metal, yellow and bronze. Since obxracingsports.com SUCKS MAJOR ***, there are no prices and no list of distributors, but I'm working on it. Here are the pics:
I will probably be getting one of these wheels in the next month...sure wish they made a 7" wide wheen in bronze tho
Anyhow, thought these might interest some of you racer types.

RacerMike, I have had the Konig Heliums on my car for over a month. I bought them from a Discount Tire store (not from the website) for $379.00. I run 205/50/15 Azenis on them for Solo2 (STS). Great setup in any price range. nk
I have seen the Konigs on http://www.groupbuycenter.com
they were really cheap. I forget what the exact price was though.
good luck,
aj
edit: the cheapest I could find the Konig Heliums were for $400 shipped

Mike: What's up with all this Street Tire and 15" rim talk? Are you thinking of moving to STX?
BTW I saw mention of your name in the most recent GRM, not much but something.

yeah, i found them but it was closed...$400 shipped. DOAH! Maybe I'll have to give discout tire direct some shyt and get them to sell them as cheaply as their stores do since they don't have any stores in my area. The Nippon wheels are not available yet according to one of their distributors.

yeah, every once in a while I get a mention, but never any pictures
No plans to go to STX nationally right now, but I may do it locally to save money on tires. I need new street tires since my Kumho 712s are nearly corded so I figure I might as well get another set of rims too and just use my OEMs for snow tires this coming winter. I'll have to see where DSP and STX go...I may very well end up there next year.

When inquiring with Revolutions Motorsports about the weights of the rotas and the heliums (both of which they sell tons of) I was informed that the heliums are not lighter then the rotas.
The nippon stuff isnt a rota knockoff, they are rotas! Like Desmond is to Spoon as Rota is to Nippon.

Can anybody pleeeeaassseee make a 15"x7" wheel. I guess my only option is Kosei K1's, but they seriously need some competition in a 7" wide wheel. I really don't want to run a 6.5" wide wheel, if other options are available.

Enkei RP01's. 15X7 and REALLY light. Under 14 pounds I think. I run these and Kumho 712's. Pretty happy with the setup. $800 bucks on the car with 205-50-15. Can't really beat that. HTH, Overkll
(BTW, I'll weigh'em when I change tires for the summer this week.)

SSR Competition. Something like 9.2 lb in 15x7. Not cheap, though.

I have some of the F2 slipstream knockoffs on order from one of the Miata vendors (for my Miata). He couldn't get the thin 6-spoke style in 15".
I ordered them for my Miata but I'm going to try them on the Teg as well once they come in, I'll post some pix.

According to the blurb in GRM this month, Rota has been making wheels in 6.5 to meet FIA regulations for certain types of racing. They are now considering making 7" versions as well for the American market. Won't help today, but hopefully they will get them out soon.
I just found this on Groupbuy center it's a 15x7 wheel.

I should have mentioned this in my post before......
If anyone is interested in seeing pricing for the F2's or some other lightweight 15" rims check out http://www.good-win-racing.com. He's the Miata vendor that I got my rims from.
The F2's were $99 each plus extra for the centering rings and center caps (fugly so skip them and save some $$).

Not 100% sure, but I thought the center hub was a little smaller on the Miata than the Honda's. Let us know though if they do fit properly. I am interested in this.
The hub on a miata is smaller than most - i know miata wheels wont fit on a Saturn - however you can take the wheels to a machine shop, and for a nominal fee, machine the inner hub of the wheel to fit. Worth it? Not sure. Safe? Not sure again... should be ok in a cast wheel though.
Hey -
The center hub is smaller on the Miata than on a Honda BUT the same rims can still be used. The difference is that you need to get different hubcentric centering rings for the rims.
Basically, the center of the rim is made large enough that it can work with several cars. A different centering ring is then used to meet the different sizes. The only purpose of the centering ring is to get the wheel on correctly before tightening the lugs. Some people don't even use these and just center by hand - however, I still prefer them.
I think most local tire shops even carry the different size centering rings. I paid like $12 to get the 4 Miata-sized ones. I'm assuming I can pick up the Honda-specific ones for around the same cost when I get the tires mounted/balanced. I'll let you know!
