Alternator help, please.
I have a 1991 CRX Si and the bolt that holds the alternator tight decided to break inside of the alternator. Ive got an easy-out, but i cant get the alt. out. When I try pulling up, the master cylinder is in the way. When I try pushing down, theres an axle in the way. I dont want to mess with the MC, would I have to take off the axel? I just want to get my alternator out, I wouldnt think it would be this hard.
Thanks everyone,
Cory

Unbolt the bracket that holds the alternator to the block.
With the car jacked up, remove the tire and remove the plastic protector in the wheel well. Then just maneuver the alternator out of the car from the bottom.

Well, you can unbolt the MC and move it out of the way juuuuuuust enough, from what I read.
You can also put the car up on jack stands so the front suspension is in full droop, take off some of the plastic fender liners, and drop the alt out past the drive axle.
Or you could pass the alternator across the engine bay underneath the intake manifold to get room to get it out.
I'm not sure how the broken bolt affects any of these techniques.

the broken bolt was just one of those things that i thought i would throw in there. It didnt seem like a normal thing to me. :-\
I would have to unhook a lot of things if i wanted to take it thru the pass. side. Ill try the whole plastic trim idea, thanks.
Anyone else?

Ok, listen to me, I have a 91 CRX Si and I just had to replace the alternator in June. I know what you're going through, you can unbolt the master cylinder and move it just enough just like the other guy said without having to redo the breaks. Be very careful not to move it too much though. I'm sure you can figure out how much is too much, then the alternator will just slide right on by.
