Default JDM gauge cluster

I have a JDM gauge cluster off an SIR-G on my teg. I got into an accident and the insurance is coming to check out my car, if they notice the gauge cluster, is it illegal b/c it's not DOT approved.

Thats a good question....I have a JDM ITR cluster, and never really thought about that. You should be ok because they are really similar, but then again who knows. Keep us posted.

do you still have your old cluster you can put back in? why may I ask did you swap it out in the first place? Does it have a higher redline or does the tach read higher?

no the jdm cluster is the same except for certain things, most noticable would be km/h rather then mph. so the speedo goes up to 180.

I swapped it in because i found it for a really cheap price i couldn't pass up. As for the speedo, it goes to 190kmh which is about 115mph, big deal i shouldnt be going that fast anyway.
So, does anybody have any info on DOT approval, i dont feel like reaching into my bag of stock integra parts do find my old cluster.

Well they might hassle you about the odometer reading in kilometers on your USDM car, and if you don't have papers showing the both clusters' odometer readings before and after the swap, you might get in some trouble there. If I were you I'd put the old cluster back in.

How long have you had that cluster in there? What do you do about registration and stuff where you have to report the odometer reading? Have you by any chance kept track of how many kilometers the odo has racked up since the swap so you can convert to miles and add it to the odometer reading of the old cluster? If you have done anything like that, then whatever mileages you have reported (beyond what is shown on the old cluster) are now on your car's record (what shows up if you run a Carfax report on it), and if you put your old cluster back in and the ins. company records that mileage, then odometer fraud will instantly show up on your car's record. I'm not real sure what to tell you to do.

just curious, not to be offensive, but despite how cool it mite look, isn't it kinda retarded ot have to read ur speed in only KM/H?

after a week or so, you get used to the speed being in km/h. It's easy to drive when there is other traffic b/c you could just stay with its flow, but a quick conversion is mph=1/2km+10% of whatever km/h your going (or 60%), if your the lone car on the road. As for the insurance fraud and stuff

Well it had just occured to me that swapping clusters like that could get your car's title/VIN/record slapped with some mileage discrepancies, which will make the resale value go Just trying to look out for others, ya know
