Electrical Load Detector problem
ok guys, i need some help, i was driving my 91 civic hatch the other day and my engine started running really bad, the car shook, the rev limiter was at like 3 or 4 grand in first and it was extremly loud, kinda sound like all pistons werent firing, or the cat came loosethe cat came loose before and it sound kinda the same. check the cat perfect...i changed the distributor and check the computer, it gave me 20 which is Electrical Load Detector, so i have a defective circuit or unplugged circut in the engine bay... theres alot of wires in there...
, so i have no idea where to start, ne input to what is going on or where it would be would be awesome...thanks guys

The ELD adjusts the idle to compensate for added electrical accessories. So, when you turn your headlights on, it'll bump the idle up some so the alternator can keep up.
I had this code last week, and I reset the ECU (take off negative on battery, or pull hazard fuse) and it went away. Do that, and if it doesn't fix it, then check the wires to make sure they're all good. When I looked through my shop manual there was a walkthrough of how to test the sensor. I can go into more detail if you need me too once I'm not at work and have my manual.

i was under the impression that 90-91 civics dont have an eld...i did a mpfi swap on my d15b2 and all the stuff including the ecu is from an 88 si so it always throws this code.. car runs mint though. so i never fixed it since thers no way too.. this "detector" is supposed to be located in the fuse panel under the hood.. and where its supposed to be mines empty. just a thought.
Im pretty sure the "detector" is not replaceable, you have buy the entire fuse box since the detector is inside or some crap.
I had code 20 a while back, and had to take my entire harness apart and check for bad wiring, and I had a couple wires melted together. If i were you id Turn the key to ignition and check voltage to every sensor under your hood and see if ur wiring is bad.

don't quote me
but I remember something about the Canadian cars not needing the ELD. Even if the code flashes, you can ignore it. Your cluster won't show anything
