Out of no where, car doesnt start..... what could be the problem????
Well... after a long day of yard work, i take my empty car over to the gas station and put 35.00 of gas. 10 gallons. Get done getting gas and go to start the car and nothing.
All lights light up. Check engine light comes on and goes off when fuel pump is done priming. Car has fuel. Car has spark.
Its like i turn the key and nothing. I get one click comming from the dash. Sounds like a relay click. Happens once.
Do starters just all of a sudden stop? like no warning signs? Or could it be the clutch switch?
How do i go about seeing if its the starter without replaceing it???
oh yeah, car is a 1992 civic hatch with stock motor. no alarm. no electrical mods. jsut suspension

uhm. you say your cel comes on and goes off, u hear the fuel pump prime, its definately not your relay.
the fact that the car clicks but wont start means ur clutch is fine as for the ignition. you can test this yourself by trying to start the car without touching the clutch at all, it doesnt do anything.
clicking with no turn over generally means your starter is bad
get out there with a hammer and give it a love tap (its behind the distributor on the topside of the transmission)
if it starts up fine, your starter needs replacing and its better to do it sooner then later u can only hit the thing for a lil while before it wont work.
im in a similar sitution though,. my battery died and i try to boost it, i try to turn it over and it doesnt have enough juice to turn over for some reason. just hope it aint an electrical problem
electrical problems suck *** and thats what im going through right now (relay/blowing fuses/ecu is cooked/alternator might be bad/battery might be bad, and my starter might be bad)
well, hopefully my crappy insight helped you some

i know of ppl that do hit their starters sometimes and i got told to do that and i was like bullshit wtf will that do. So go tap the starter huh??? guess ill give it a shot in the morning.
im just glad it isnt the clutch switch, cause that biotch is wayyy up there.

One other thing you might try is to jump the solenoid on the starter and see if it spins over. Just run a wire between the hot terminal on the starter and touch it to the solenoid terminal on the starter to see if it works... If it does, you may have a problem with a different part of your wiring.

Try push start it first. Don't bang on the starter. Give it a push untill it's rolling about 20 km/h turn the ignition on and put it in second gear. Let go the clutch, the car should start if starter is the problem.
its at work and there isnt a place to push start it unless i go out onto the main road and thats not happening. plus, one person is kinda hard to push start it.
seams that when my friends need help, im always there but when i need help, they all disappear....

Interstate battery less then 1 year old. all lights light up. all dash lights work. Just like a normal start-up except nothin on the crank setting.

i got the same thing, turned out to be the battery wire terminals, they was all corroded so much that the bolts that hold them on turned out to be about 5 or 6 mm's instead of 10(?) anyways, went to napa, bought 2 and a bottle of water for 1.32. they are on sale this month, plus im in there so much, i get a discount

Check your battery terminals, and also the terminal on the starter. If all are tight get a new starter.

turned out to be one of the connections to the starter. it was inside a rubber housing thing and it pretty much fell off. crimped on a new connection and the biotch fired up.
saved 85.00 without replacing it

Sometime's their are folk's who apparently must not feel very good about themselve's, who post some unkind remark's. Unfortunate. Any case, it sound's like either the battery, cable connections to ground or starter, or starter itself, are your highest liklihood's. I'd suggest checking them all by just physically pulling, wiggling and so forth. I've had connections get just a little loose, where they look ok, cause a lot of frustration. One thing you can also try is get a good pair of jumper cable's and get a jump from someone else's running car. If that doesn't work, try jumpering a wire between the positive terminal and the ignition wire terminal on the starter. That wire attach's to the starter solenoid and if you jumper it, you bypass all of the wiring from the key and so forth. If the battery and wiring are Ok and it doesn't turn over when you jump to the ignition wire, then your starter is probably the issue. Hope this help's.
