need help engine light is on...!!! AUTOZONE is closed its SUN :-)
Ok so i got my oil change few days agoin my rsx-s .... Yesterday I noticed that the oil was showing low on the dip stick but it was changinging some times it was above the bottom hole and some times below couldn't really figure it out. Today I put a quart of penzoil 5w30 in the car just to be safe. Now the engine light is on!!! its not leaking I checked... could it be that I have filled it up too MUCH????? i drove it for a mile after adding the oil when the engine light came on and as soon as i saw it i went back to my house.... hopefully i didn't ruin anything... If u have any idea what could be wrong would certianly appereciate it
thanks
thanks
it could possibly be that the engine isnt use to that oil, like, you drained it all out, and the new oil just got poured in. so im sure the engine could be just alerting you that it needs oil. you should be fine, i usually let my car idle for about 20 minutes after an oil change, make sure everything gets in there...

idle for 20 min? thats rediculous.
Now you could check the dip stick and see if you filled it to much and that would help you out. But that should not make a check engine light come on.

I checked the dip stick its still missreading... there is a oil streak that goes pass the top hole and the thick oil is just above the bottom hole. which means its okay level... SO ARE U POSITIVE THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WON'T COME ON IF I OVER FILL IT????

you need to learn how to read your dipstick. its really not that hard.

the oil light would come on if it was low. Does vtec kick in strong still? If its low, VTEC tends to feel weak because oil pressure is low.
the CEL is normally a sensor error, so on of the sensors may have gone bad. How thick is the oil? You might want to go to a lube center and have it flushed and a fresh dose of oil. Have you been changing from conventional to synthetic and back?

It is possible that who ever put in your oil put in to much, to little or the wrong kind. If you want to be posative change it your self!!!! I do and it isn't that hard. You can't hurt an engine from running to much unless you dog the crap out of it, it will just burn out. What kind of oil did you have in it and what did they put in it? Just go to Autozone and buy 5 quarts of synthetic (I use Q from quaker state and love it) and then buy a new filter and change it your self. After that the light will come on but for no more than 5 seconds if you did it right.
hey thanks for all the help... turns out the the engine light had nothing to do with the oil atall ... took it to Autozone for code reading and it came out P1163 ( said something like air and fuel metering) which I guess is the O2 sensor.... I don't know why it would come on after me adding the oil..:-/... I erased the code then took it to the delearship where they said the oil is at the right level... now the engine light hasn't come on since... so I guess I m all set.... I put penzoil 5W-30 when i got the oil change done... they put less oil in it i guess.... because i had to put like a quart of oil to make it tooo the acurate level between the dots... asked the guys at the delearship said don't have to worry about anything so I guess Im all set .. it was just alittle low i guess.. below the bottom hole... but the o2 sensor light hasn't come on since... dont' know why it would come on out of the blue!!
