Attn: Anyone that has done a timing belt on a H22a
Ok, so i go to replace my timing belt/balencer shaft belt in my accord (h22a...) I've done it a few times on B series motors, but i hit a snag. I can't get the belt on! Anyone have any install instructions for these, that is, if they are any different then B series. By the way, i don't have the auto tensioner, i went with the H23a manual tensioner. The belt is just a little bit away from going on, but its all the strength i have to get it near. Should i get someone stronger to try?

If memory serves, the timing belt number should be 14400-p13-013. I got an aftermarket balancer belt and I've lost the numbers. Make sure you have this timing belt. Make sure the adjuster is completely slacked off, I usually remove the tensioner from mine when changing the belt.
Check to see that the 'tensioner locking bolt' (the one with the cotter pin in it) is turned all the way IN (as in seated- not removed) as this will bind the tensioner plate and it won't retract all the way.

make sure honda gave you the right belt first of all, i know they gave me a wrong one before. this site might help you , check it out: http://www.hondaprelude.to/install_camgears.html
Well, i got the belt on. BUT, what i wasn't sure about is, where is TDC on the flywheel? i seriously couldn't find it. i never saw a white mark. i did see some little indintations on the flywheel, and lined those up as good as i could. i did check to see if the piston was to the top on cylinder #1 as best as i can, but its hard to tell how deep it is. Also, where is the notch in the crank when the car is at TDC?
Also, i'm guessing i have to align the balancing shafts, right? if so, how do i align those marks?

ok, well, i heard from a few guys that if i wanted to, i don't need to run the balancing shafts, and it won't hurt the crank/rotating assembly. Though i'm kind of weary about this, i'm going to discuss it with some people.
The balance shafts are easy to line up. When the crank is at TDC (when the Key-way is pointing up towards the middle of the camshafts), the front balance shaft has a mark on it that lines up with a mark on the block. The rear shaft has an inspection plug that you remove and place a screwdriver (manual says 6x100 bolt) thru the hole in the balance shaft.
I would just like to add that if you are trying to change a cam-belt without a service manual, you are officially INSANE!

my friend just put together a new built h23 block i tried turning one of the balancer shafts..and man i thought it would be easier to turn....seems like a lot of parasitic loss there. Is there that much friction on the balancer shafts?
