I was wondering if it was possible to buy and install the latch mechanism onto a 96-98 hatch door instead of replacing the entire door? Would it be possible and if so would it be practical?

 

Why are you looking to replace it?

 

Its just one of those pointless mods. My hatch doesnt have the door latch on it and I want to add it on. I was just curious on whether or not it was possible to do it without buying the whole door.

i dont think you can do it ...........just the trunk release

if the latch is broken take it to honda and see if there is a replacement

 

Yeah, you can do it. Just go to a junk yard and pull the parts your self. Or go to the honda dealership and buy the parts if you have too. Just remember to bring some tools if you go to the junk yard. Why do you want that latch.....cause on the 96-98 you can open your trunk from inside the car. I don't think you can do that if you have the latch. At least on all of my friends 99-00 hatch's they can't do that.

You can't open the hatch from inside the car. Or if you can how? I was always annoyed that our hatchbacks don't have a hatch release How am I supposed to get into those small spots and crawl out the hatch.

 

Aw bummer, so theres no way to use both?

 

this is a good question cause i wanted to find out what i need to bring over to change over the hatch, which has a hatch release lever on the inside of my old car, into a 99 which has no release hatch.
