Problem starting car...
So pull the car out today after sitting for about a week, starts right up and idles fine, let it run for maybe 5 min and turned it off. After that the car sits outside w/ the windows up for about 3 hours, it's about 80-85 degrees outside. Get back in the car to pull it in the garage and it starts up but the idle drops really low and if I don't hold the revs up it dies. Now if I hold the revs up for 10-15 sec it will resume a normal cold start idle. So take it out for a drive (feels totally normal) w/ the windows down pull it back into the garage, turn it off and start it back up and it idles fine no problem.
Soooo sounds to me like the main relay, figure it was sitting outside w/ the windows up and got pretty hot in there. Just a little suprised it'd go out w/ only 85k miles but it is 6 years old I guess
What do you guys think? Am I missing something obvious?

Chris,
Just last week the same issues came up with a friends car and it turned out to he ignitor. Granted this was on a much older DA, but heat plus electrical parts doesn't/don't mix.
Check to see what kind of spark you're getting, assuming its consistent. Sounds like its on its way out....

Oh yeah, good guess.
Chris- I was going to guess your spark plugs probably fouled up while idling for 5 minutes (car runs rich until the O2 sensors heat up), and when you drove it later the heat cleaned them up.
Maybe check the plug condition if you haven't in a while.

I got the exact same problem. Usually happens when I leave the car sitting in the heat at school. When I goto leave it starts up and idles real low and sounds like a old american muscle car idling for a bit til I rev it up a few times and let it warm up more.

so.. one time occurance? probably fuel fumes bypassed and made their way into IM and messed up a/f during start up.. evap purge sensor/maybe map sensor.. but more than likely evap purge valve.
doesn't sound like main relay. - i dont think thats even supposed to happen on newer integras (main relay failure). borrow a relay from a friend before forking out $50-60.
- if it doesn't happen all the time the don't worry about it. i have the actual hose to evap purge valve plugged up. its sealed tight cause i dont want anything to explode. theres a drain underneath the car where it will make its way eventually.

I could be wrong, but if the ignitor was bad, the car wouldn't have started at all, correct?

It can give weak spark, esp. when hot too. I replaced mine before it failed completely..
Could be, anyway, i wouldn't rule it out.

Most times yes, but that could also indicate the main relay. This is where you'd need to test for spark. The easiest way to do so is to pull one of the plugs and keep it attatched to the plug wire. Ground the bottom of the plug to a bolt in the engine bay and have a buddy crank the car a bit. You'll either see spark or you won't.

Both of these are very correct.
Chris do you think this could be related to your normal starting issues also?

Chris,
I don't think it's the main relay... If it's bad, you wouldn't hear the fuel pump and the car wouldn't turn over (no fuel).
My guess might be the IACV being dirty? I get that quite often in the race car. I think my map sensor might be bad....

Hey Chris, does your engine bay seem to be warmer than usual? Lately even at night I've been noticing my engine has been running a lot warmer. You can't really tell from looking at the temp gauge... but when I open the hood a few times to check on it it's feels warmer than usual. Just wondering since my problem is pretty simular. I'm gonna check my plugs this weekend. I got another problem with the oil light staying on a lil longer during start ups as well...

I set myself up for that one. I'll be sure to get better readings with my tempature guage next time before I post.
