Cat Pee'ed in Trunk
I did a favor for my GF yesterday - took her cat to the vet. We took him in his cage in my trunk. Well, he got a bit scared from the car ride and pee'ed in the cage, with the run off soaking the carpeting in the back. I didn't notice it at first but later that afternoon, my car reeked of cat pee.
We took the carpeting out last night and soaked it with that Nature's Miracle stuff which has enzymes that are supposed to eat the bacteria in the cat urine.
But, I don't have a lot of faith that it will be 100% effective. Any small trace of cat urine left will probably still make the car stink - especially in the Hot Texas Summer Sun.
1) Anybody have a similar experience?
2) I was trying to figure out if the carpeting was supposed to be there anyway on our cars. I thought I've read that it wasn't a stock item on Type R's. The whole car is carpeted, so I assume the trunk was supposed to be too. Even with the padded backing, it probably doesn't add a whole lot of weight to the car. I also looked at the invoice for my car and the dealer added $595 of "Decor Trim" which I can't exactly recall what was included (I think it was just the Front Floor Mats, Mud Guards and Wheel Locks).
3) What is the Type R Trunk Mat? Is it the same size as the rear carpeting, or is it to supplement just the flat trunk part?
4) I got a quote from John Eagle Acura, here in Houston for $118 for the Type R Trunk Mat and $195 for the rear carpet. Are there online resources for these items as well?
Thanks.

I would have shot that cat and spread its blood on my carpet as a warning to others...
Seriously I would have killed the cat... maybe not spread the blood... but still killed it...
No really you should look into Oxy clean.. I use it and it works well on organic substances..

Ahh dude your totally screwed, cat urine is the worst. My advise, go get new trunk carpet. I don’t care if you wash that thing with diesel fuel....it's done, especially like you said just wait for the first 100 degree day. You'll know what I mean.
I had this happen to me with one of my other cars. I left my windows down over night and a stray cat decided to mark my car as his territory.

There actually shouldn't ever be bacteria in urine unless the urinary tract and/or the bladder is infected
That's beside the point though. A similar thing happened to me recently when I brought my cat home from the vet. He pissed on the front seat and I saw it early so that helped. Oxy Clean is a miracle product. It works really, really well. There is also some stuff from the Fresh step (the same people that make the Fresh Step litter) that comes in a clear bottle that works well too. Hope this helps.

ok call those people who will come to your house and clean your carpets (they deal with these p[roblems on a daily basis) and ask them what to do. More than likely they will have the stuff and just give it to you. (thats what mine did when my girl splled coke all in the floor board of my car)
the R trunk mat is a mat that looks like your floor matts that just sits on top of the carpet and looks cool.
as for those prices, they sound all outta wack! if you are in the Dallas area shoot me an E-mail, other wise check out Radely Acura @ RAdelyauto.com
GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the tips, guys.
After dousing the carpet with the "Nature's Miracle" half of it smelled like orange, and half still smelled like cat pee.
So I ordered a replacement carpet from A&H Motorsports for $133.55 + $15 shipping.
What a deal. Looking forward to that new car smell again....

OMG, being a cat lover myself, here's my take. #1 sorry top hear about your car, that smells bad. time will make it go away. Also, why does everyone hate cats?

This reminds me of a story from when I was younger....My neighbor had a red porsche and was EXTREMELY picky about the car. One day I heard him screaming about something and went out to see what was going on...He was ranting and raving about catching the neighbors cat in his car *trying* to bury a **** on his front seat! I watched him carry a box(which obviously contained a pissed off cat) into the garage. He then went into the house, and returned with a pillow case. Went into the garage, and returned shortly there after with the cat in the pillowcase. He then proceeded to fill a plastic trash can with water....
I'm sure you can figure out the rest.

That sux!
I would have kicked that cat's *** and given it a good reason to be taken to the vet!

I'm just curious. Is there a law forbidding us from having animals in the rear or front seats? I would never put a pet in the trunk in the first place....
I don't consider pets to be luggage.
Can someone explain to me why people put their pets in the trunk please? I'm not trying to flame or anything, I just don't get it.

In a 3-door Integra with the seats down, the "trunk" is really contiguous with the interior cabin and therefore not as cruel as sticking a pet in a 4-door car with a trunk. (unless its rear seats are down)
