ebay short shifter review
I bought a shifter from ebay for my ej1. After searching and finding that some people here had bad experences with ebay shifters, I though I would do a mini-review.
I bought this shifter...

The sellers ID is vpp sales, in case the link doesn't work. He advertises it as stainless steel. It seemed heavy and weighed 22oz so it could be stainless but I'm willing to bet it's just some type of electroplated or chromed steel. Definitly not aluminum though.
As received, note hardware and spacer

Notice how instead of a hex head screw it included an allen head screw, whatever I guess, I have pleanty of 6mm allen wrenches.
Close up of cheap looking roller bearing

Comparison to stock shifter

Installed

When I went to connect the bottom of the shifter to the shift rod I noticed it was sloppy. So I added washers in between the shifer and the receiving fork part of the shift rod as sketched below.

Then when I went to tighten it down I noticed a flaw in the design. If the bolt is tightened down it clamps the fork part of the shift rod to the shifter, effectivly eliminating the bearing, also making the shifter bind on the linkage, so I just left it loose and added some locktite.
driving impressions
It's definatly better then stock. Its not sloppy at all. It fit fine in the ball and socket pivot area and the shifter **** threads were fine. In my opinion the shifter is to low and to far forwad, but for under $15 shipped I'll live with it.

nice review.
i bought a no name brand short shifter from a shop and i loved that thing.
it cost me 20 bucks and it was better than any other shifter ive touched.
you cant beat a $20 shifter being better than $50-$100 shifters.
as long as you dont drive like you are staring in the fast and the furious, it wont snap. unless its made out of aluminum foil.

i have 2 of those shifters but i never end up using them.
they look like they will last but not for to0 long.
I bought a fidanza and i notice the difference in quality and wight.
get something that is going to last.
I had to cut mine in half in order to feel like a short shifter.
They all feel like stock unless you cut them in half. in this is when you can feel a difference

I had a cheap aluminum shifter that I bought at AutoZone in my Civic hatch for more then a year. That includes a Wisconsin winter with road salt. I had no problems with it.
Ok, what did you notice about the quality and weight? Please be more specific so your statement will have more credibility. I weighed my stock shifter and my cheap-o, the difference is almost 10 oz. The cheap-o having more mass. Please note what made you think the ebay shifter was poor quality. Examples: surface finish, threads, fitment, etc.
No, this shifter hardly feels like stock. If anything the throws are to short. Maybe I can weld on the discarded piece of the shifter you cut in half.
