is a JL 500/1 amp too much for one 12" JL W3?
i have one 12" JL W3 powered by a JL 500/1 amp. it sounds really nice and pounds hard but reading JL's power reading chart says that the JL W3 maxes out at 500 watts and is in the red zone. is this bad for my sub??? should i get a smaller amp?
no i dont think that the 500/1 is too much for the 12w3. Just dont ride around distorting the bajebus out of it, and you will be fine. I had 450 watts rms going to my two 10w0's and they took it like a champ.
double the power, double the fun

you can never have too much power to a sub or any speaker. Its actually safer and it wont blow as easy. The reasons subs and speakers blow is because of not enough power and the user keeps turning up the volume to get it louder.
yes it will be fine!im in fl and when we first got the jl amps in we built a ported encloser for a 15w3.we then put the jl 500/1 on it.its 93 out,we drove for 25 miles round trip with the volume turned up the full time and the amp dont even get that warm. no ****!
like the above post-more power is allways better.
adjust the gains properly.
