Thick White Smoke..no contamination.
Alright before I get flamed. I just became a member but I've been trolling these forums for the past couple of years and yes I've already used the search feature but didn't find much info pertaining to my certain case. I just got a new engine put into my 91 crx. D16y8. I can't say im overly excited though because the shop had my car for 3 months for something as small as that. Well I've just now got my car back and at times. Not all the time. It will let out some mean *** thick white smoke out of the tail pipe. Ive checked the oil and the coolant and neither seems to be contaminated and the engine is running strong with no overheating. Around the head gasket though it does seem to be overly oily. Was wondering if I was correct in assuming its the head gasket? Any other ideas?
My exact thoughts on the situation. With a head gasket problem though, wouldn't the oil atleast be contaminated with coolant to some degree, or no?
It does smell extremely sweet, I'm pretty sure the coolant is mixing to some degree. Thankfully though I dont believe it has got to be that bad yet. I guess I'm just going to have to take it back to this damn shop once again and get them to fix the busted gasket they left me with.
Contamination is not necessary to have a bad hg. Keep a close eye on your coolant level. Your hg sounds like it is leaking into the combustion side of things so you wouldn't necessarily have contamination. Under what conditions does it smoke, long periods of running, WOT etc? One way you can check is by looking at your spark plugs...see how they're burning, mine were shiney and had a little green tint to them.
Basically like when I first got the car me and my buddy are coming back from the shop and he tells me to turn my head and when I do the smoke is so thick I couldnt even see behind me lol. So I'm thinking to myself this just spent 3 months in the shop it cant be a problem, maybe its just from the engine sitting so long. So I get back to base and let it run for a few and it stops. That night I drive it and no smoke at all. Next day I got to work and no smoke. Then last night I start it up after it was sitting for a bit and BLAM big *** cloud comes out. I drive to movie store and when I'm done in there BLAM big *** cloud of smoke again. Drive to work this morning though and no smoke at all. Its just weirding me out.

They supplied engine but like I sad last time it took 3 months and was nothing but bullshit. I know there required to fix it and I've already contacted the owner. He tells me he'll get back to me when he's had some time to think about whats causing it when I blatantly told him what it almost with a 99% chance is. Had the car 5 months and I've driven it a total of 3 weeks. I JUST WANT MY BABY TO RUN >
Dont threaten the guy, but calmly say that you dont want to have to mess around with smearing his shops name through the local paper and dragging this mess through small claims court.
It is only 30 dollars to file, and you need no lawyer, just your reciepts, and the Judge will side with you, trust me.

Well guys thanks for your help. Even though its been a long road of BS this guy has in a way been helpful with me when it came to issues with money, which is why I just want to handle it in the most civil way possible. Thankfully I believe its only the head gasket so it shouldn't be that big of a problem. After PT today I'm gonna call the guy and explain what the problem is calmly and also emphasize that I don't want my car gone for 2 weeks just to change the head gasket. I gotta say though after this I wont speak about his shop good or bad to anyone nor will I be bringing my business back though. To bad I cant find any other shops around here!!
