So before you think this is some stupid ricer thread, you're wrong. This is gonna sound really stupid but just read it.
Yesterday I installed an Si cluster I purchased online. I had done a 5spd conversion a while back and still had the old HX cluster in the blinking lights and **** from park and Drive were starting to annoy the hell out of me, and not to mention it isn't as good looking as the Si cluster. So after I put it in I headed out to the movies with the GF and I was noticing a HUGE difference in the car, VTEC-E was actually engaging unlike months before (Which was most likely due to running the automatic ECU still and all the codes from the Auto CVT tranny and whatnot? That's what I think.) What I'm wondering what coulda caused this? The sudden engagement of VTEC-E? I drove around for about a year without this damn thing engaging and it felt like my car was going to suffocate sometimes. I'd floor it and it would pick up so slow it was hard to merge into traffic on the freeway, but last night it was a breeze. So yea, any input on what the hell coulda happend is appreciated.

Larry, you got your auto to manual already? Gee thanks for little me know, what a ****
Howd you like it.
Dont know why you think your VTEC-E wasnt engaging when you had your old cluster, that has nothing to do with VTEC. But glad its working out for you.

Yea I know but it's quite the coincidence that it happend after I swapped clusters that's all.
Maybe I fried something when I disconnected the battery? Haha.
But yea I've been running the Manual for a while now. It's amazing, definately a huge improvement over the stupid Auto CVT. 1 Infinite gear wasn't cutting it for me. Haha.

Well it didn't make it stronger.. but after I installed it VTEC-E was ACTUALLY ENGAGING unlike before. So it's quite a weird coincidence.

Nope the car wouldn't even get upwards NEAR 90mph before hand before it would feel like it was being sufficated. MPH Pick up was INCREDIBLY slow at WOT. I'm not dumb though, I know a Gauge Cluster change doesn't make any gains WHATSOEVER but I just find it weird.
The only thing different was that I didn't hook up the green plug (For the automatic crap)

It's possible, possible that the Auto cluster messed with your ecu thinking it was in neutral or something thus having different maps and no v-tec.

Don't know the numeration but it's the stock AUTO ECU that comes on the HX.

Hmm. That's what I was thinking. Well I had rig some wires to make the car think it's in park in order to take out the key. And when my CVT tranny went bad the D on the cluster was blinking, and while I was driving the car around with the tranny messed up VTEC-E wouldn't engage. Then ofcourse the Tranny completely went bad and wouldn't go into any gear whatsoever. But this whole time since i swapped out to a 5spd the D had been blinking still with the Light in Park on too. Those lights were really annoying actually.

hey did the Si cluster hook right up to your HX? or did you have to modify it?

Yea I know, it's very weird for this to have happend when I installed the Cluster. At first I was seriously thinking WTF? I don't care what happend, as long as the cars running how it SHOULD be running finally.

Did you even read the thread? I'm not saying IT IS the reason or that it gave me any power gains. But my car coincidentally started ACTUALLY ENGAGING into VTEC-E unlike before, how it wouldn't.

You know, the R32 cluster looks similar in shape to an EG cluster. However, it's driven by a cable.

Haha.

maybe the ecu had some codes stuck in it and was running in limp mode or something. When you disconnected the battery you also reset your ecu, maybe this is the difference you are noticing?
just a thought

i was also thinking this but i think you would know if you were running in limp mode. was the vtec-e engaging before you did the manual swap? or did it feel the same?
