Strictly for H-Tech(Technicians ONLY) question....
Hello guys, I have bought a 1994 Civic DX as a project in the next few months. I'm not that familiar with this model that's why I'm here to ask questions. For some reasons I noticed that the steering wheel is fighting back. Do I have a power steering wheel problem or I don't have a powering steering on this model? Will this be a problem if I get a swap engine?
Thanks alot guy. I just needed a straight answer from someone who is very knowledgeable about this car and not from someone who would give a BS answer. Again thanks.
i dont think the 94 model dx came with power steering 3 of my friends who have 94dx's came stock without ps, what u should have is the non-powersteering rack which should be alittle stiff but describe fighting back?
have u checked the car for damage maybe from a wreck, or damage to the rack its self? be more specific.
edit: and no it wont be aproblem to swap an engine, if u dont have powersteering its one less thing u have to worry about fitting/removing/reinstalling etc.
btw why not pop the hood and look for a powersteering pump or resivor that will answer ur question as to weather u have it or not.

The DX did have power steering. Should not be a problem with swapping engines, but some people like to swap in a non power steering rack because of the feel it gives.
And what do you mean by fighting back? It should be smooth, just check your fluid level.</TD></TR></TABLE>
94 DX does NOT have power steering.

it's not that of a technical question, but anyway, you will have no problem with a swap whether the car has power steering or not.

WRONG! dx models had power steering, how do i know you ask. because my 93 dx hatch has it. that's how it was when i bought it from some old couple.
*edit* i'm taking that the op doesn't have p/s beacuse he seems to be stuggling with the seering wheel.

my 94 dx does not have power steering.
also honda does not list any power steering parts for the 1993 DX civic hatch.
so the guy that has it, yours must be a custom add on job and not as it was as honda made it.

now unless this is for a general listing on 93 civic's, but when i looked 93 civic 3dr. this came up.
*edit* what site are you looking at?
also, it's not a custom job, it was a one owner car, i'm the second. you see i thought the same thing, dx = no p/s. but when i asked the old man did he have it installed after or during the car purchase he told me it was like that from the day he bought it. so there is only two conclusions i can come up with:
1. the dealer had it installed before they put it on the lot.
2. i'm the only civic owner in america that has a 93 civic dx with factory installation

For starters, look under the hood and actually look for the power steering pump. If you don't know what it looks like, it runs off a belt driven pulley, and has a hose that runs down to the rack, which is behind and below the engine.

wow, you can do a auto-manual conversion, but you can't tell tell if your car has p/s?

LOL.. he isnt the original poster
as for the wheel fighting back.. do u mean that it wants to return to the state its in when its going straight?
if that is what u mean then that is common because the center of mass is still traveling straight therefore there will be that force in the wheels wanting to go straight that is transmitted in the steering wheel

IF the steering wheel is fighting then its a suspension component.
Check your Inner and outer tie rods. Replace if needed.
Get an alignment.
Bad Bushings.
Balljoint.
All of these would cause the steering system to be unstable and fight back

When I said it fights back means whenever I turn my steering wheel to left or right, I struggle. Popped the hood and have NOT seen a power steering reservoir. I guess it's a good thing I don't have it if I'm planning on engine swap like most people say. But thanks to all who responded.
