Default Starter Problems.....

Today i decided to change my backup sensor as my reverse lights were no longer working.

In order for me to do this, i had to remove the battery, its tray, and the starter.

When i put everything back together, all i hear is a loud whine when trying to start the car.

Ive taken the starter back out 3 times. Ive tripple checked everything. All wires are plugged in. The shaft is sitting on the flywheel correctly, and the small wheel is sitting on the larger wheel which is connected to the shaft and bearing.

What is the deal here? Is there some secret im not aware of ?

Yes. The initial small gear spins. The solenoid on the starter isnt engaging the pin to push the shaft into place to actually spin the flywheel...

weird, i just did a bunch of work on my car and then found out my starter died. bought another one off a guy on here and it didn't work either.

damn those mitsuba starters! take the starter in to an autoparts store and have them test it on a machine.

no. I tried the jumper method as well with the car in the "on/acc" position ( not much good this will do you has you have to hold the key in the ON to get the starter to actually move ) and jumpered from the battery to the solenoid connector. made the same noise and did nothing. just spins.
