Default How much for a paint job

My car was stolen, and I am in the process of putting it back together. I had to do some bodywork myself and I am looking to get a cheap (money wise) paint job. I'm guessing painting it the same color will be less expensive. How much for a quality but cheap paint job. how much would you guys spend. I will most likely be selling the car within a year.

quality and cheap dont go together. you need to pick one or the other. A good paint job will cost you. A cheap one will do if you are selling the car anyway. (although that is not nice, get a crappy paint job and sell it, but owell, i would do the same)

why don't you call around and find out. that's the best result. IMO, i would pay about $5000 for a quality paint job, from a respectable shop.

Most decent bodyshops are going to do their own bodywork. Painting is the easy part, prep will make or break the car. If you want a decent paint job then more than likely the bodyshop will do their own bodywork regardless of what you have done. If you maaco(sp?) or earl schieb it, then by all means do your own work. A decent paintjob will run you $1500 and up (depending on where you live) and a cheap paint job will run from $100 up to about $750.

I got mine at Earl Scheib for $365 with the coupon. That's their top of the line service with the 6 year warranty. I had the body work and sanding done in Mexico. I'm happy with the outcome, although they oversprayed the whole underside of my car and got a smudge on my side mirror. Some dust landed in the paint when it was wet. And they just paint on top of chips and other imperfections without really sanding it. Sounds bad but it's actually much better than what the used car dealership did to my car before I bought it. If your car is a show car with perfect body lines, then this would be a travesty. But if your car is like 90% of the old Civics on the road, this is a great option.

I have a thread on the whole process in the appearance forum.

i say around $5000, because i wanted it to look like oem or better, regardless of the color. not to mention i would do other thing as well like door jams, engine bay, etc.

the color is not going to affect the price much, unless you want some of the wall color and a diff paint scheme. They will still sand it down, primer, and paint. A good paint job is going to cost about $2000, a really good one will cost more. A crappy one can cost very little, but you will pay for taking the cheap one later down the road.

$5k is kind of alot, unless you want a show car paint job. $2k is about right I think.

Correct, it is all about the prep work. That is what will cost you.

I would def do the same. $5k for sth like that, unless you did alot of the prep work yourself, and delivered the car on a trailer with no engine and no windows and such. If your going to spend the money, do it right the first time.

Also, the OP just wanted to get a paint job, and he plans on selling it. So to the OP: just get a decent paintjob. Dont half *** it, but dont cheat the person who is buying it either. I would say spend at least $1k, depending on how much you can sell it for. A good paint job will make a car worth atleast $500 more, prob more.
