Default Power Steering Fluid?

Hey guys, I'm sorry to bother you with such a simple question but I was doing some check ups on my dad's 00 accord ex and the power steering was kinda low. So I looked it up in the manual and it recommends (almost makes it a requirement) that I use genuine honda power steering fluid. Is this really the case or can I use some aftermarket brand? Sorry if this is a repost but I did a serach on this forum and found nothing Thanks for your time guys, really appreciate it.

the honda is the best, but you can use aftermarket stuff that is formulated for honda as well, though it may make for slightly more noise through the ps pump.

i guess or online Honda OEM parts suppliers...

side note: I've used that bardahl stuff & no problems... i've used a dolla store turkey baster to suck out old/black cruddy fluid & replaced w/ this stuff 2 years ago. NO PROBLEM ever since the transfusion of fresh fluid.

Regular power steering fluids are not suitable for Honda power steering units which require a fluid with viscometric properties. The fluid meets all Honda specifications to keep power steering units operating smoothly and quietly at all speeds.

It also contains a sealer and conditioner to reduce pump wear and prevent leaks due to hardening and shrinkage of seals.</TD></TR></TABLE>
