Default accelerator hiccup

if anyone could give me any idea of what might be causing this problem it would be much appreciated....when i press down the accelerator once the clutch is completely released the engine has kind of a hiccup around 3000-4000 rpm in third and 4th gear. when it happens i kind of lose power and the car kind of shakes a little bit...i was thinking it could be something like the clutch maybye not releasing properly or maybe the timing. or maybe the distributor or a valve that needs replacing any info would be awesome..thnx
