Default Not sure what the problem is here. Axle? Brakes? wheel bearing?

About a month ago I was driving my friend's 95 Ex and we noticed that whenever the brakes were applied to a stop, we would here this weird knocking sound coming from the front driver side wheel. Since then it has gotten a little worse sound-wise.

I assumed it was a bad axle, but I did the "turn test" and didn't hear any clicking around turns. And it doesn't really vibrate at WOT.

Could it still be the axle? Any ideas?

this seems to be common lately. have you checked all the ball joints? my guess would be the axle. had a friend have the same problem on his 96 ex. checked everything from brakes to joints. though i haven't heard from him in a while i suggested the axle, though it's not clicking i have heard the knock(or tap) when braking. haven't had it in my civic but i did have on my kia sephia (my first car, it was cheap).

Not really. I'm not positive.

Ok I took a look at it again today. It does not make the noise from a stop. Only makes the noise when the car comes to a slow stop. It sounds like a "dong" sound. I can't really describe it.

I took a look at the axle and the boot had a small tear in it. About 1inch long. Also how do I determine if the ball joints are bad?

take off the bottom bolt behind your brake rotor. thats your ball joint but i doubt its that though.

There are actually three joints, upper a-arm to knuckle, lca to knuckle, steering arm to knuckle.

Maybe a cracked rotor? With no vibration, no clicking, and it only happens when slowing down with brakes, it might be.

No clue. Does the car pull to one side or the other at any time, esp during braking?

I started to think maybe it was the rotor but I'm not sure. I don't think it pulls to any side.

I guess check the rotors and pads, then.
