Default valve cover painting... few more questions.. searched

well i am about to paint my valve cover tomorow wrinkle black...

bought it from autozone as well as aircraft remover.. now i have a few more questions...

1. i strip it down then wash it with say dishwashing liquid? or what? do i have to sand?
2. I know primer is needed... but how many layers?
3. when it comes to the painting... just like 5-6 coats? after drying of each one?
4. and how long do i put it in the oven for? at what temp ? do i put it on a pan? or just put it in the oven.. dont think momma would like her oven with wrinkle paint all in it..

sorry. i just couldnt find the answers to that

when i did mine i used aircraft remover, it removed all the old paint. didn't have to sand down a thing. then i washed with some soap. i hit the primer about 3 coats let it dry thorough in between coats, then i hit it with the paint. don't remember how many coats since it painted it until everything was painted and matched.

* don't go crazy with the paint. spray it then let it dry then spray it again, and so on. you don't want the paint to run.*

then i let it air dry. when satisfied with the paint i took a 180 grit sandpaper, folded it and gently sanded off the paint on the letters and emblem.

you must wait atleast a day for the paint to cure. i didn't wait and later on during the day i put it on and paint was removed alittle whaer the plug cover goes.

i taped over the **** i didn't want painted then used exacto knife to cut **** out...

i did

-aircraft remover
-garden hose to wash it off
-scraper/sandpaper to get the little corners n ****
-mineral spirits (grease remover)
-no primer
-VHT black wrinkle paint

I did a lot of coats of paint, but made sure the first light coats was dry (10 mins?) before I started on the other coats. Wait till everything is good and dry before u start removing the tape. Use an exacto knife when you're taking the tape off. (i used tape cuz it sounds more precise then vaseline i dunno)

if you're gonna stick it in the oven that's fine. just do like 250 degrees for 10 mins. make sure u take off the little rubbers underneath the spark plug holes. i didn't stick it in the oven. a few heat cycles on the engine and youll be good. my cover still smells like paint, and its been like a month or two.

You have to use thick layers for wrinkle paint to work.

You dont really have to tape **** off, you can steal your sisters acetone and it will rip off the paint.
