Default O2 sensor question, switching headers

I have a Y7 header with the cat on it and tehre is a huge *** crack(causing major detonation) on it so i am going to buy a cheap ebay header for now and now i wont have a cat and no place to put the 2nd O2 sensor.

Will my car be fine with just the first one in?

You can buy headers with the second O2 sensor inlet. Anyways, if you deeply need one, I would just grind down the surface of the piping, drill and thread an inlet for my second O2. I would reccomend that if you know how to do some mediocre metal fab...

would placing the 2nd one in even without a cat mess it up or would it be ok?

You'll have a CEL caused by the missing cat.

See if you can find a used Y8 header and cat if you're not real interested in performance. I'm sure someone in your neighborhood or local community will give the parts to you for ***** and giggles.

Your car will run fine without the second o2 sensor installed. You will have a cel though and if another problem comes up that would cause a cel, you would know about it.

thepartsbin.com has some slightly cheaper factory style replacement cat/headers.

Even if you did put the 2nd O2 sensor in with a test pipe, you're going to get a CEL anyways. Best just to get the CEL, rip the light out, and forget about it, or better yet, relay the damn thing

the upstream (before the cat) is used for short term and long term fuel trim. The downstream (on or after the cat) is used for catalytic efficiency, and is not going to effect performance or gas mileage. just an annoying light on the cluster
