I was planning to buy this type of antenna and use a blockoff plate for my stock antenna. The reason being is that the metal nipple part of the connector that goes into the radio was broken since I had the car. I ghettoed it by using a paper clip to act as the nipple, but reception isn't clear and it seems to be getting worse.
If anybody has this antenna, any feedback is welcomed. Thanks.

I was going to run it up the a-pillar through the roof and mount it in the top center of the windshield.
I installed this back in 2002 when I had my antenna shaved. Reception is as good as stock if not better because the unit is amplified. I'm using a Metra hidden windshield antenna. One important thing is that placement of the unit is crucial to how good your reception is gonna be. At first, I stashed the antenna behind the cupholder area behind the console completely out of sight. Reception was horrible so I re-installed it the proper way by routing it up the passenger side piller then along the roof pillar. The plastic pillars conceal all wiring. By mounting it on the windshield, it has a direct line of sight towards the sky.
My antenna looks exactly like the one in your pic. I have it sitting on the very top front edge of the windshield where it sits in front of the rearview mirror. Here are pics of the antenna installed...........
Can you see even it?

You notice that you can't even see the damn thing from outside of the car because of how the windshield is slanted. It's practically invisible and unnoticable unless you actually sit inside the car. It looks very unconspicuous. Most of my passengers don't even notice it.

I can't remember if I did or not.
It does have a tiny red LED on the face of the unit. Whenever you start the car, the LED lights up so you can see that the antenna is powered up. Then when you shut off the car, the LED turns off.

i was gonna do that myself because my antennae has been broken for 3 years now. Turns out you can buy factory replacements for like 15.99 at radioshack, also most places keep them in stock. I was amazed to find this out after putting up with bad reception for 3 years now. Quick note: When you are replacing a factory one you can clip your old cable from out side the car and tape it to the radio end of the new cable, then simply pull the old cable out through the inside under the dash. (so you don't have to "fish" for the new cable in the pilar) This way it is very quick and simple and only took me about 10 minutes for the whole procedure.

I just bought one from Kragen today. It's a little longer than I thought, but it shouldn't bother me. I'll install it in 3 weeks when I get back home and post pics.

Well, I have gotten around to install it since I came home Sunday. Installation was really easy. There is a 12v wire that needs to be spliced into the radio harness for power and a ground up top.
I bought an antenna blockoff plate and yanked out the old non-functional antenna. If anybody needs a replacement antenna, I would recommend the Metra Hidden Antenna.
