98 V6, rear brake disk. Do I need to disconnect the brake line?
I want to replace the rear brake disk on a 98 Accord v6. Haynes manual says to disconnect the rear brake line and plug it with a small rubber tube first. The bottom caliper bolt that bolts onto the frame seems to be very hard to get to. How can you take off the caliper without taking off the brake line? There doesn't seem to be a way to swing a wrench at all. please advise, thanks.
Take the caliper off as if you are doing pad replacement, hang the caliper up with a bent coathanger or bungee, then remove the caliper mount bracket. Good time to lube the slider pins and holes with some high temp grease.
I can see no reason to take the brake line loose

I can understand why the Haynes manual says that. With the brake line still attached, it can be somewhat of a tight squeeze to get the caliper off, but still not that big of a deal. I've done numerous brake jobs on 6th gen V6's and Acura CL's (same brake setup), and I've never had to remove the brake line.
Sorry to tell you guys but you do have to remove the brake line in order to get the rear calipers off. I tried to replace my rear rotors and noticed the top bolt for the caliper (you can get to with with right wrench) will come most of the way out - but just when you think you have it most of the way out - it hits up against the metal piece by the lines. In order to completly remove the screw you do have to take the brake line off (I know its messed up - the fronts are no problems - but for the rears you do). I decided against it - so the rear rotors are the same old nasty rotors. Didn't want to deal with the hastle at the time. So I am saying that the manual is correct.

The bolt may not come out completely, but it still clears the caliper bracket. Trust me, I do it all the time.

I agree. Just loosen the bolt enough to come out of the slide pin. Don't need to remove it completely, just loosen it enough. Just pull the caliper off the rotor. Never had to remove the brake line to remove the rotor. Have done hundreds of rear pads.
