Compressor Bearing Replaceable?
My 90 EX has been making a lot of squealing at start up and when the a/c is on. Had the belts replaced thinking that was it. Well at least I have new belts now, but still squealing. My japanese auto repair shop told me that it is most likely the bearing on the compressor. Well funds are short these days, so I was wondering if the bearing can be replaced without having to do the whole compressor. The a/c still blows nice and cold. Please help! Is this possible?

sure you can do this without breaking loose the A/C lines. Remove the P/S pump and bracket then pull out the ALT and bracket [unhook the battery negative first]
Then unbolt the A/C compressor and tilt it up and out. unbolt the clutch plate, [don't lose the shims under it] and then the bearing is held on by a snap ring.[puller might help at this point] Check the inner race bearing surface of the compressor 'nose' to be sure the bearing didn't lock up and wear into the housing. If it all looks good put on the new bearing, slam dunk it all back together and 'be cool'
