opinions wanted: Alpine HU with KCE-422i iPod cable
I have decided on the Alpine 9856 headunit. Now I have to decide if I want to control the ipod from the headunit or from the ipod itself. The KCE-422i iPod cable is 30 dollars. To control the ipod from the ipod itself will cost me 20 dollars. Yes 10 dollars cheaper, but the KCE-422i iPod cable will also charge my ipod and i will not need to buy a car charger for it. I am basically looking for opinions on how the KCE-422i iPod cable works. I was at best buy and the sales associate told me that it moves slow and you can not see too much of the title or artist, only like 8 characters show up. But he also said that was for last years models and they are suppose to be new and imporoved for this year.
So does controlling the iPod from the headunit have any drawbacks? Post anything that you guys have observed or even heard. Thanks in advance.

best buy guy is stupid. Full speed means fast. I know last years models were slow (they weren't full and needed a hundred dollar adaptor) but worked. this year its basically perfected. get the 9856 you will love it. between the 9857 (350 deck) and the 9856 the display is different... meaning you are getting the best bang for your buck...
9856 all the way
controlling from headunit= convienance, controlling from the ipod= risky...
see now if you lived where I lived, I'd totally hook it up for you and show
it.

Get the 9857. The multi-line display really helps.
The new alpine interface is really good as long as you don't have 70+ artists in there. After that it can take a while to scroll down to the one you want

9857 is outta the question. It's about 150 more. I saw on the alpine website that they have a demo of how the system works, and if mine will work like that i will be happy. Thanks for the quick responses. If anyone else has an opinion feel free to throw it in.

The interface on the w200 is the best on the market right now. Good choice
