Default '88 Accord LXi/Brake Lamp Indicator

Hi All, A few months ago a brake lamp blew out -- as was indicated. I replaced the bulb (#2057) but since then the indicator activates about 50% of the time -- of course, when the peddle is depressed. Turn off the engine and the light may, or may not, come back on. So it's not a lamp problem anymore. I've exchanged bulbs, cleaned and sanded the contacts on both socket and lamps, and checked the nearby wiring as best as possible.
Any ideas? And if not, what wire might I disconnect to keep the light from activating? Thanks in advance. Ray

I thought they used 1157 bulbs? Are any of the sockets corroded?
