Bad Vss = Car running rich?
My VSS isnt working, and my check engine light for the VSS comes on from time to time. Would this cause my car to be running very rich?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

vss is speed sensor, dont think it would cause it to run rich.
only way is if the ecu automatically retards timing b/c there is a
CEL. thus causing it to run rich. but does the ecu do this on a vss code?

How can a VSS cause VTEC not to work? Since when was VTEC dependent on vehicle speed? VTEC activation is RPM dependent, not vehicle speed dependent. The ECU doesn't get it's RPM signal from the VSS. That whole statement is just confusing.
What makes you think your car is running rich? What's been done to it? How rich is rich here? Are you sure it's too rich? Did you have a wideband on it?
Come on guys... seriously... what kind of help do you expect to get here if you haven't made sense of it yourself yet. And people trying to help... I have no idea... I'm speechless... just wow.

thats funky, cuz when my vss stopped working, so did my vtec, i have heard of it being like that b4. But if its wrong, then sorry for the false info.
Well, the car smells very rich. Its a stock d15 with stock ecu, it only has a dc header and intake. It has no catylitic converter either. The speedo doesnt work, but the vss cel only comes on when I downshift and coast.
my vss dont work i dont throw a cel for it.
but as far as i know vtec is dependant on these things:
throttle/speed/oil pressure
if your not wot, ur not vtecing
if u dont have oil or pressure, ur not vtecing
if your driving faster then 25mph, ur not vtecing
correct me if im wrong

yes vtec is related to speed.... also it throws a CEL which most CELs will disable vtec.. doesnt have to be in limp mode to not have vtec..
anyway.. VSS wont cause your car to run rich

My friend had a bad VSS and VTEC was definitly not engaging.
From what I have read in the past, VTEC won't engage unless the car is moving. And if the VSS is broken, the ECU thinks its sitting still so it won't engage. This is just from what I have read. I do not know for a fact if this is the reasoning.

think about what your typing before you do it. you can be 1/2 throttle or 3/4 throttle and still get to the rpm necessary for vtec. and how the hell are you going to be in vtec driving slower than 25mph?
