timing belt / camshaft marker
Okay so I'm totally confused....
I am working on a 98 Civic Si (canadian version) with the D16 engine and although the crank is at TDC I can't figure out if the camshaft is at TDC.
Funny thing is that my 90 CRX Si has a little marker on the cam gear that is supposed to match up with the plastic cover arrow but strangely enough the 98 Civic Si has a camshaft gear that looks like it should belong on a B-series engine.
Can someone here tell me precisely how the camshaft gear is supposed to look like at TDC?
Thanks
thanks

cam gear ha an "up" arrow on it. along with that you'll see a couple of marks on the left and right. those marks need to be flush with the base of the head on each side when the up arrpw is pointing up.
this is the strange thing....
the two horizontal lines DO line up with the head but the UP word on the cam gear is pointing down.
The little arrow on the cover is my reference and before I removed ANYTHING I marked the cam gear with a dot of white paint indicating the cam position at TDC.
So.... can anyone confirm my findings please.
Thanks

I figured it out....
I just painted the tdc mark when the crank was 180 degrees out.
Upon closer inspection I just rotated the crank one more time and bingo! The up mark was pointing up...
silly me...
