immobilizer problem going from obd1 to obd2
ok im asking this question for my friend, because he tried to ask the same question before and no one didnt help him so ne never been back on the form......... he has a 99 accord with a h22 swap. the problem that hes having is the {emoblelizer} i think that how u spell it. like if he want to go to odb1 ecu how in the hell do you bypass it because he has a jumper harness. in other word the chip in the key how do u bypass that. Come on now i know that there someone that know how to do.
And last question, he has coolent temp gauge problem the car can set over night but when u turn on the car the coolent temp gauge hand goes beyond the H and stay there.

Without an ECU that has the immobilizer, the chip inside the key will not do anything at all. With an OBD I ECU, there is no immobilizer system. Whether or not the key has a chip in it (or if it's programmed at all) will not matter.
If you want to get the key reprogrammed for the ECU, you need to bring both to the dealership. I don't know whether or not it needs to be already installed in the car though...

ok i think i see what your saying.......... even this isn't my car it sound like it is a pain in the *** to do but i'll give my friend his props for sticking with his car.no matter what if he has p28,p61, or p72 the key will not work unless he goes to the dealership to get the key reprogrammed, and if he has a odb2 prelude ecu he still have go to the dealership to get the key reprogrammed. i dont want to sound like a dumbass, but i want to make sure.
No no no.
If you get an OBD I ECU, just IGNORE the immobilizer system. Forget about it. You won't have to worry about it AT ALL.
With an OBD II ECU, you'll need to get the keys reprogrammed.
If you happen to get a 96 ECU, then you'll have a OBD II ECU that does NOT have the immobilzer system, and in which case you can IGNORE the fact that the key has a chip in it.

A little off subject, but I have a 97 cl 2.2 and it doesn't appear to have an immoblizer chip in the key. Key looks like a regular honda key, but with Acura on it.

The OP was talking about the H22 ECU, which had the immobilizer since '97.

I understand your issue. I just got done with JDM H22a1 with p13 ecu in a 98 accord. It turns out that you don't have to worry at all like most people here are saying. Since P13 (OBD I) doesn't have immoblizer, just ignore it. I timed my car and pulled 14.97 with just a motor swap. Your friend will have fun with it. good luck
