Here is an interesting little tibit.. I have the HKS SSQV and for the longest time I though the cha cha cha chirp sound it was making was normal SSQV sound. After some closer listening I relized that I was getting compressor surge before the blowoff [chirp] and that it wasnt how the valve was supposed to sound.
I racked my brain trying to fix the issue, adjusted the adjustment screw, looked for vac leaks, all to no avail, still the cha cha cha chirp.
In a last ditch effort i switched the vac reference for the valve from the smaller throttle body nipple to a nipple off my vac manifold... voila!
Sounds like a COMPLETELY different bov now, still get the flutter (but not cha cha) at low boost ike 4psi but anything higher and its like a WOOSH of air not a cha cha chirp.
Just though i would share cause I would have never guessed such a small increase in vac reference size could make such a huge difference!

My Tial did the same...some of the valves need a strong vacuum source to fully open. I had mine T'd at the FPR, switched to a T in the brakebooster line and everything cleared up.
i have my RFL t'd into the brake booster along w/ my wastegate and i'm getting mild compressor surge, but no boost spikes....is that a good vac source? I have a Tial 50mm in my garage right now just waiting to be installed, but i dont want to have compressor surge w/ it that is why i'm asking....
on my old setup i had too much t'd off the fpr, so i t'd it off of the pcv. i had it like that since day one. but i do know what you are talking about. and do see that alot.
Thats funny. A few weeks ago i did the same thing, just cleaning up my engine bay some, with lines and what not. Same thing happened, i hit boost, and wooooosh, i was like uhhhh whats wrong with my car. Our turbos are probably a bit happier now
