I am wondering if anyone has cut the grill out of a 01-02 coupe front bumper and put in a grill from the 98-00 coupe


I live in alaska so there really are no cars to compare grill size with so any help is greatly appreciated

to tell the truth, i have been wondering that over 2 years already. The issues i have found with it.

The grill on the 02's holds the bumper shape in place, and if you cut it out it might make it wobby and stuff.

what can be done is get a decent type r, or oem 98 grill and mold it on.

but how im stumped...

 

I have everything I need except for the bumper (grill hood) for the 01 sedan - 01 coupe front end conversion

I belive that if i cut it out just right I can keep all mounting points on the bumper however and possibly modify the grill? or something else?

I have'nt seen a 01-02 coupe front in person (I live in alaska so theres not to many in my small town)

ah ive been wondering this as well well the only thing is that if you do cut it out....you better have some steady *** hands or else it going to look like crap...second what are you going to use to hold in the grill...and like the other guy said if you do cut it the bumper will tend to buckle inwards

Let's say you have a 01-02 coupe bumper, you cut off the grill and put the 98-00 grill on it, there's two issue you might face.

1)first of all the dimension of the bumper changed, meaning the grill could sticks out from the rest of the bumper.

2)Second, the 98-00 could be mounted on your metal beam support but you can't actually attach the lower part of the grill to the bumper, at least you can't without some sort of plastic weld or glue.

someone already mention it might rattle if you take off the upper support, I have a 02 Front and everying seems to like the newer design much more.

I'm pretty sure just about everyone with the 01-02 bumper has thought about this mod. What i've been thinking of doing is shaving back the horizontal bar in the grill and mounting black diamond mesh over it. It's risky, but not as risky as cutting out the entire grill, imo. I'll post pics once i'm done (unless it turns out like crap).

 

think you could take pics of the front and back grill area on your bumper while its off?
